If you are looking today for a decent deck for your skateboard than buying your deck is one of the most important part of the board to most people. By buying your decks seperately annd then adding the rest of the components afterwards means you can be more choosy of the size you purchase. Trucks and wheels can be added separately. You may find that some of the component pieces may not be as good with complete skateboards so upgrade of parts to thedeck at a later stage as your budget or skill level increases.

Maple Ply Decks: The skateboard you buy will need a deck. Many of the decks you buy today are made from Cananadian maple ply. The decks are then dyed to create various different designs and color. You can buy a modern deck in a variety of sizes, but the width of most are between 7 to 10.5 inches wide. Wider decks can be used for greater stability when transition or ramp skating. The general length of skateboard decks is usually between 28 and 33 inches long. Occassionally a shorter deck can be purchased for the very young skaters. No mater what sizing the ply is usually a 6 or 7 thickness of ply. The underside of the deck can be printed with a design by the manufacturer, blank, or decorated by any other means and the top has usually got griptape on it to stop the feet slipping..

Decks Of Other Materials: Other materials are used for deck construction, such as fiberglass, bamboo, resin. To increase the strength and lightness of the decks Kevlar and fibreglass can be used too. Some decks such as the The latest Enjoi decks come with Resin-7 construction which features a tougher resin than most skateboard decks. Because less glue is used, the deck is lighter but also retains its pop for longer. Element is a company that has been around for quite a while and have been making some of the best decks on the planet for over 15 years. Each Element deck is produced to exacting standards to give you the best ride possible. For a great board the Thriftwood range of skateboard decks feature a traditional approach to board construction - standard 7-ply construction with mostly natural veneers. These decks feature classic Element style graphics on a good solid skateboard giving you a good choice for your purchase.

Decks For Longboards: The longboard a common variant of the skateboard, has a longer deck. Is is mostly used for skating downhill or sometimes near the beach also with sales sometimes added. As the name suggests they are much longer in length than your average skateboard deck. The deck was created by two surfers by the name of Whatson and Jonny Drapper.

Components For Decks: No deck if you do not fit anything else to it. Choosing the quality of components vary trermendously and the hardness of the wheels make a difference to your grip on the surface as well as your speed ability. When skating on an indoor circuit, the wheels that you purchase for your deck make a difference. The advantage with a bare skate board is it becomes your choice of what you fit. The outdoor wheels tend to be a bit softer than indoor wheels and trucks can vary as well. Even if you buy your deck seperately, you will still have to cater for a better quality wheel for different envirornments. If you are aiming to do tricks or if you are speed skating, the components you choose will mater.
